Apparently these rock cliffs once laid flat (the sediment layers are visible) but were pushed up about 250 million years ago when the North American Plate that supports the continent of North America, and the Pacific Plate beneath the Pacific--collided. Any geologists out there?

This image is just breath taking!
It's a pretty special coastline, I have a photo somewhere of one of those old trees by the coast, I think everyone takes that photo. I was sorry to see, a couple of years ago, that the old canneries I remembered from Monterey in the 1980s had all gone - they were so much part of the city.
Nice composition
Oh that so convinces me that I need to go there for my birthday next year.
This rocky coastline is stunning!
Simply beautifully captured shot...lovely!
I'm not geologist but I can confirm those brown things in the right foreground are rocks.
Any other questions?
(But seriously, that is a wonderful photo.)
Just beautiful!!!!!!
This is so similar to many parts of Portugal's coast line. Wonderful shot!
